That there is power, in numbers.
Accomplishments • The temperance movement of the 19th century and early 20th century was an organized effort. The movements ranks were mostly filled by women who, with their children, had endured the effects of unbridled drinking by many men. But by the 1840s, working class men joined the temperance reform by forming Washington Societies, and during the 1850s, supporters of the temperance reform got nine states to pass laws banning alcohol. The movement was interrupted by the Civil War but reemerged later.
