Setting Preferences for Finding Full-text In order to locate Sladen full-text holdings, you must modify your EndNote preferences. 1. In EndNote, go to Edit – Preferences 2. Click on ‘Find Full Text’ on the left hand side 3. Enter the OpenURL Path: http://sfxhosted.exlibrisgroup.com/hfhs 4. Enter the url: http://desoto.hfhs.org:2048/login 5. Press OK
Finding Full-text 1. Select your references by going to Edit – Select All 2. With your references highlighted, press the ‘Find Full Text’ button Find Full-text Button
When the following box appears, press Continue Press OK and the search process will begin
Your Full-Text Articles **Remember that only electronic journals to which the library subscribes will produce full-text results. In this case, 38 articles were found and are attached as PDF’s
Creating Groups to Manage References 1. Click on the Groups Tab and select Create Group Set 2. Name your Group Set
Adding References to a Group 1. Right click on your Group name and select ‘Create Group’ 2. Name your group (e.g., UV) 3. Drag and drop references into this new group or right click on specific references and select the ‘Add References to’ button and add references to the UV group
Creating Smart Groups Create smart groups if you want references to automatically be grouped based on your own list of criteria. For example, all publications from 2009, publications that have a certain keyword in the main article title etc.) 1. Right click on your Group Set and click on “Create Smart Group” 2. Name your smart group 3. Set search parameters (e.g., year of publication etc. ) 4. Press Create. EndNote will search your references for the parameters you specified and place them in the appropriate group.
References in the ‘Smart Group’ Click on the smart group you wish to view. The references that meet your specified criteria will be listed. To go back to your master list of references, click on ‘All References’ on the left hand side of the menu.
Transferring References to EndNote Web 1. Go to Edit-Preferences and click on EndNote Web 2. Enter the url: http://www.myendnoteweb.com and then your EndNote Web email address and password. 3. Press Apply and then press OK
Exporting References to EndNote Web 1. Select a group in EndNote Web where your references should be placed 2. Choose the radio button to either transfer references from the Desktop to Web or vice versa 3. If you choose to transfer from Desktop to Web, indicate which references you would like to export 4. Press ‘Transfer’
Changing Library Modes The default mode is the Integrated Library and Online Search Mode which allows you to manually add or import references to your library as well as access the online search where you can search databases such as PubMed directly from this screen.
‘Local Library’ Mode The local library mode simply removes the ability to conduct an online search. All other functionality is the same.
Online Search Mode This is a temporary search interface where you can connect to a database such as PubMed directly from EndNote Click the tab that says ‘Online Search’ Press the ‘More’ button to select a database such as PubMed
Selecting the PubMed Database **Please note that we recommend searching PubMed via EndNote for simple citation verification/importing. For a more comprehensive search, please go directly to the PubMed database 1. Scroll through the list to locate PubMed (NLM) 2. Press ‘Choose’
Searching PubMed via EndNote The search box for PubMed appears at the bottom of your screen. You may search various fields such as year, title keywords, journal title, author etc. Press the ‘Search’ tab when you are ready to conduct your search.
Your Results Your results will be imported. To copy references to your EndNote library, go to the ‘Reference’ tab and click ‘Copy References to’ and select your EndNote library.
