EuP - The Main Steps • EuP Directive (2005/32/EC): July 2005 • Creation of the Consultation Forum: end of 2006 • Creation of the Regulatory Committee 3rdQ 2007 • Adoption of the EuP Working Plan by July 2007 • Transposition of the EuP framework Directive by the Member States by August 2007 • First implementing measures: end of 2007
Creation of Consultation Forum Call for interest for Stakeholders: closed since 31 March 2006 Letter to the Member States: coming weeks First meeting: end 2006 / beginning 2007 (to be consulted on the draft Work Plan)
Creation of Regulatory Committee Letter to the Member States: late 2006 asking for appointing the national authority(ies) and contact person(s) First meeting: 3rd Quarter 2007
EuP – The Work Plan • launching of a survey study (ENTR) June 2006 on product groups to be covered for the next 3 years • first draft, consultation of the Forum beginning of 2007 • adoption by COM by July 2007
EuP State of play and next steps • Mandate for programming standardization activities to CEN/CENELEC/ETSI – catalogue of related existing standards • Common methodology developed for preparatory studies: the VHK MEEuP Report • Preparatory studies have been launched for 13 product groups, plus one horizontal study on stand-by/off-mode

EuP - Next preparatory studies Further studies will be launched late 2006/beginning 2007 for product groups having significant greenhouse gas emission reduction potential (indicative list): • solid fuel boilers • laundry driers • industrial air compressors • electric heating appliances (incl. heat pumps) • domestic or industrial lighting • vacuum cleaners • set-up boxes
Process/calendar for adopting implementing measures • Preparatory study to determine whether and which ecodesign requirements should be set: 11-21 months (with technical workshop to validate the draft final report) • Submission of first draft to the Consultation Forum: 5 months after workshop • Submission of draft measure to the Committee (after impact assessment and interservice consultation): 3 months after Forum • Adoption by the Commission (European Parliament scrutiny, WTO notification, translations, written procedure): 4 months
