Bridges with lightweight structures face challenges from heavy vehicles causing discomfort due to induced vibrations. This study from KAIST in Korea aims to propose a passive control device for improved bridge serviceability. The research includes formulating a mathematical model, optimizing device parameters, and demonstrating numerical examples with significant reductions in normed displacement and acceleration. The proposed device effectively controls both displacement and acceleration simultaneously, decays steady-state responses faster, and proves useful for bridge vibration control.

CONCLUSIONS • Proposed Passive Control Device • can control both displacement and acceleration simultaneously. • can decay the steady-state responses much faster. • Therefore, proposed passive control device could be effectively used for vibration control of bridges.
