Construct a five tab foldable Materials: Foldable handout Scissors Pen Colored pencils/crayons Formula chart calculator Instructions: Cut each paper hamburger fold. You should have 6 ½ pieces of paper. Staple all sheets together in order, with the title page on top Cut on dotted line at the top of each page so that you form “tabs” for each page. Foldable Instructions
Notes: Conservation of Energy • Record the following notes at the top of the ‘conservation’ page of your foldable • energy is measured in Joules (J) • energy cannot be created or destroyed, it simply changes form • energy ‘lost’ is actually energy converted to heat (thermal) energy as a result of friction • Answer the two questions on your foldable
Notes: Energy Transformations Many forms of energy: • Light • Sound • Thermal • Mechanical • Solar • Wind • electrical • Match the image on your foldable to the energy transformation taking place • Label A – E with the appropriate types of energy present
Potential Energy • Write out the GPE expression on the potential energy page of your foldable • Complete the problem shown on your foldable
Mass to Energy • Write out the expression shown on the mass to energy page of your foldable • Einstein: Mass can be transformed into energy According to the equation E = mc2, mass — A. travels at the speed of light B. can be transformed into energy C. contains light energy D. is doubled when exposed to light
Specific Heat • Write out the expression shown on the specific heat page of your foldable • Complete the problem The initial experimental conditions are shown in the data table. The temperature of the water increases to 28°C when the metal block is added. How much heat was gained by the water (Cp = 4.1868 J/g°C ) when the block was added?
