  3. The Solar System • Jupiter is the 5th planet from the sun. • Jupiter is 5.455 A.U.s from the sun. • Jupiter is 8.157 x 108 km’s from the sun. • Jupiter is 5.2 A.U.s from Earth. • Jupiter is 779 million km from Earth. • Jupiter takes 11.86 days to orbit around the sun. • Jupiter day is 10 hours long.

  4. Planet measurements • Jupiter’s mass is 317.83 • Jupiter’s volume is 1323 • Jupiter’s equatorial circumference 142,984km • Jupiter’s mean density is 1.33 • Jupiter’s gravity is 2.4 This is a picture of the moon almost covering Jupiter!!!!

  5. Composition & atmosphere • Jupiter’s core composition is made out of ice ,rock and metal. • Jupiter’s surface composition is made out of gases. • Jupiter’s gases are molecular hydrogen and metallic hydrogen.

  6. Jupiter’s spot. • Jupiter has a large red spot called the great red spot (GRS). • The great red spot is 22 degrees south of Jupiter’s equator. • The spot changes from a brick red to a bright brown caused by sulfur & phosphorus.

  7. Moons • Jupiter has 11 moons. Lo Europa Metis Adrastea Amaltha Theve Ganymede callisto Leda Himalia Lysithea Gaymede is the largest moon in the solar system.

  8. Rings • Jupiter has 4 rings. • 2 faint gossamer. • 1 main brightest rings. • 1 doughnut shaped hallow ring. • The main ring is 20 mi. thick & more than 4,000 mi. wide.

  9. Exploration • Jimo is designed to explore the icy moons of Jupiter. • Jimo is called a space craft. • He was designed to live for 20 years, which means he is due in 2017. • He is a Delta 4h. • What year was he launched in?
