History • Mars’s history is different than others. It doesn't have a known discoverer because even from before the Greeks people could see Mars. It had gotten its name from the Roman god of war. When they saw the planet, they saw a red color they thought was blood. The symbol for Mars. Also known for the male symbol.
Solar System • Mars is the fourth rock from the sun. It is also 1.52 Astronomical Units from the sun, or 227,936,640 kilometers. Its distance from earth is 0.52 AU or 78,338,750 km. Mars’s orbit around the sun is 687 earth days to equal one year. Although, it does have a length of 24.62 hours, almost what we have as one day. Mars’s position in the solar system.
Planet Measurements • Mass: 6.4185 x 10²³ kg • Volume: 1.6314 x 10¹¹ km³ • Equatorial Circumference: 21,344 km • Mean Density: 3.94 g/cm³ • Gravity: 3.693 m/s² • If I weighed 100lbs on earth I • would weigh 38lbs on Mars. • Perihelion 206,600,000 km • Aphelion 249,200,000 km More Data on Mars.
Planet Appearance • Mars is a reddish orange planet that has some clouds of frozen water from the poles of the planet. It has craters on its surface from meteor showers, it has canyons, and volcanoes that could have been active a long time ago. Also, Mars is a round planet that has no rings. Moons (Satellites) • Phobos and Deimos were discovered by Asaph Hall. Both of them were named after Mars’s sons, and both are irregularly shaped. Phobos has a diameter of 17 miles, and Deimos has a diameter of 9 miles. They are both dark grey and look like asteroids. Left: Phobos Right: Deimos
Core and Surface Composition • Core Composition: Mostly iron and small amount of nickel that is solid and not liquid. • Surface Composition: Iron Oxides and Silicates. Pictures of Mars’s surface
