  1. RESULTS Forest Cover – Treed Retention Presented by Mei-Ching Tsoimtsoi@shaw.ca January 2010

  2. RESULTS – Scope Supplemental to RESULTS Information Submission Specifications: Licensee Submissions document Submitting Forest Cover to RESULTS for Openings with Treed Retention.

  3. RESULTS – Application Obligation to establish a free growing stand: In accordance to FRPA s.29(1), s.29 (2) and submit under Forest Planning and Practices Regulation (FPPR) sections 86, 87, 88; application for relieve under FRPA s.108 and FPPR.96, and declaration sunder FPPR s.97 In accordance to FPCBCA s.69.1 and s.70 and submit under Timber Harvesting and Silviculture Practices Regulation sections 45, 46, 47, 48 Government-funded activities reporting in accordance to RESULTS Information Submission Specifications: Government-Funded Silviculture Activities.

  4. RESULTS FC Submission via ESF Forest Cover submission must be done via ESF which contains both XML (attribute) and GML (spatial) information. Information on what is ESF and how to submit via ESF may be found at: http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/his/esf/

  5. RESULTS FC Submission - Keys Keys are what allows RESULTS to identify an opening. If forest cover submission is for a new opening, it must be created. If forest cover submission it is for an existing opening, it must be provided.

  6. RESULTS FC Submission – Keys for harvested areas

  7. RESULTS FC Submission – Keys for non-harvested areas * Non FT-opening categories may be created via ESF or online to generate Opening ID for submission

  8. RESULTS FC Submission – Components Polygon Component – all polygons Inventory Component (for areas subject to stocking standards, where silviculture and inventory components are identical. Silviculture Component (for areas subject to stocking standards, where silviculture and inventory components are not identical) Inventory Component (for areas not subject to stocking standards; or for areas subject to stocking standards where silviculture and inventory components are not identical)

  9. RESULTS FC Submission – Components

  10. RESULTS FC Submission – Components

  11. RESULTS FC Submission – Components

  12. RESULTS FC Submission: Reserve Type Code * RESULTS can accommodate mappable units 0.1ha ** Dispersed retention <5m2 per ha do not need to be reported, but considered to be best management practices if linked to FSP results or strategy or associated with a silvicultural system (eg. seed tree)

  13. RESULTS FC Submission: Reserve Objective Code

  14. RESULTS FC Submission:Reserve Objective - TIM Reserve Objective – Many codes exist as residual stems serve multiple purposes. “TIM” denotes residuals that are considered short term retention and available for subsequent harvest entry prior to the end of the current rotational planning cycle (whether or not they are actually harvested). When “TIM” is used, a re-entry year is entered as part of polygon component. Any reserve codes other than “TIM” are considered long term retentionandnot available for subsequent harvest entry until next rotational planning cycle.

  15. RESULTS FC Submission:Reserve Objective - WTR Reserve Objective – Many codes exist as residual stems serve multiple purposes. “WTR” – residuals left for wildlife tree retention as primary objective. WTR goals would be counted towards meeting FPPR s.66 requirements for wildlife tree retention in RESULTS,

  16. RESULTS FC Submission:Average Basal Area Many silvicultural systems have specific target BA/hectare (or as a percentage of pre-harvest BA/hectare) retention level as part of stocking standard In these cases retained BA/hectare is included with inventory and silviculture components of forest cover submissions

  20. RESULTS Reserve Example:Short Term Retention – Group with TIM Polygon “B” is Group with TIM within SU 2

  21. RESULTS Reserve Example:Short Term Retention – Dispersed with TIM Polygon “A” is Dispersed with TIM within SU 1 with full label for multi-storey stand

  22. RESULTS Reserve Example:Short Term Retention – Dispersed with TIM Polygon “1” is Dispersed with TIM within SU 1 with full label for multi-storey Note that example shows only Mature Layer, but all layers were provided (Pole, Sapling and Regen)

  23. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Group with WTR Polygon “W” is Group with WTR objective

  24. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Group with BIO Polygon “W” is Group with BIO objective

  25. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Dispersed with OTH Polygon “1A” is Dispersed with OTH within SU 1 with full label

  26. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Dispersed with OTH Polygon “1A” is Dispersed with OTH within SU 1 with full label

  27. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Dispersed with WTR Polygon “A” is Dispersed with WTR objective Within SU1

  28. RESULTS Reserve Example:Long Term Retention – Dispersed WTR Polygon “A” is Dispersed with WTR objective

  29. RESULTS Submission Requirements Full ESF Submission – xml (attribute) & gml (spatial) for forest cover No Online - Forest Cover Edit attribute only No ESF spatial only updates VRIMS does not pick up attribute or spatial only updates!

  30. RESULTS Reserve Reporting Dependency– Pending work VRIMs – does not reflect 2009 procedural coding changes. VRIMS team is aware and alignment requirements and will schedule accordingly. Corporate Reporting System’s WTR reports does not reflect new procedures and are unreliable for recently reported areas that uses new procedures.* Business Views – Reserve View is based on old reserve type code usage of “W”, “R”,”O”.* * Strategy is being discussed to balance data based on old versus new reporting procedures

  31. RESULTS Reserve Reporting Dependency– Current Situation - CRS WTR Report WTP & Riparian based on “W” & “R” (now retired) No conversion of old records so WTP for these records – they exist as is. As new FC submission occur, these will eventually be updated to new standards; however, anything already free growing will remain as old codes.

  32. RESULTS Reserve Reporting Dependency– Interim workaround to CRS WTR Report RDD008-Forest Cover Report (CSV only) Sort perform summary by Reserve Type & Reserve Objectives Sort by MAT NAT as alternative step Use Excel or MSAccess to calculate.

  33. RESULTS Reserve Reporting Dependency– Current Situation - LRDW RSLT_RESERVE_SVW WHSE_FOREST_VEGETATION_FOREST_COVER_SVW is used by LRDW, ILRR, FTA Pulls from RESULTS where SILV_RESERVE_CODE is “W”, “R”, “O” This is not applicable to records based on new procedures “G”, “D” & usage of SILV_RESERVE_CODE)

  34. RESULTS Reserve Reporting Dependency Interim Workaround– LRDW RSLT_RESERVE_SVW Use WHSE_FOREST_VEGETATION_FOREST_COVER_INV_SVW (join/link via OPENING_ID) to OPENING_VW (contains disturbance end date) Pull all SILV_RESERVE_CODE in (“W”,”R”,”G”,”D”) and Pull all SILV_OBJECTIVE_CODE (this reflect both old and new procedures) Use WHSE_FOREST_VEGETATION_FOREST_COVER_INV_SVW (join/link via OPENING_ID) to OPENING_VW (contains disturbance end date) Pull all records STOCKING_STATUS_CODE = “MAT” & STOCKING_TYPE_CODE = “NAT” Pull SILV_POLYGON_NUMBER – to display – anything that is like “%W%”, “WTR”, “WTP” may be potentially Wildlife Tree Retention (many licensee have been coding in this manner, but not based on any existing standard)
