Proposed Resolution to CID 120

This presentation proposes resolutions to address the concerns raised in Comment CID 120 regarding Tgaj draft specifications D0.01 presented by Qian Chen. The response analyzes potential remedies and suggests amendments based on the feedback received. It delves into the operational details of CDMG MAC protocol by Qian Chen on a 1.08 GHz channel, highlighting various options for PCP/AP operations and channel switching mechanisms. It also explores the compatibility with DMG STAs and allocation strategies for legacy STAs. The revised text proposal aims to enhance the existing specifications and address the identified issues comprehensively.

  1. Proposed Resolution to CID 120 Qian Chen

  2. Introduction • This presentation proposed the resolutions to Comment CID 120 to Tgaj draft specifications D0.01 in CC12. Qian Chen

  3. Response to CID 120 • Comment • There are several concerns with this approach as outlined in https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/13/11-13-1282-01-00aj-mac-proposal-for-dynamic-bw.pptx. • Suggested Remedy • Please address the comments in https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/13/11-13-1282-01-00aj-mac-proposal-for-dynamic-bw.pptx. • We accepts some of the technical comments made and proposed the following amendments in this presentation. • Revised Text • Replace 9.40 in TGaj draft specifications D0.01 with the revised text proposal in IEEE 802.11-14-0783r0. Qian Chen

  4. CDMG MAC protocol (60 GHz) Qian Chen

  5. Operation on One 1.08 GHz channel (1/3) • There are two options for a PCP/AP starting its PBSS/infrastructure BSS in a 1.08 GHz channel. • The first option is proposed in 11-13/1291r2 and the second one is proposed in 11-13/1282r1 . • The option selected to work in an 1.08 GHz channel is indicated by the DBC Option subfield of Dynamic Bandwidth Control element contained in DMG Beacon frame and Announce frame. Qian Chen

  6. Operation on a 1.08 GHz channel (2/3) • First, the PCP/AP sets a TSF timer to record the beacon interval (BI) on 2.16 GHz channel. • Second, at the beginning of a beacon interval on 2.16 GHz channel, the PCP/AP schedules a notification period (NP) or BHI that consists of a BTI, or A-BFT, or ATI. • Third, at the end of a NP/BHI on the 2.16 GHz channel, the AP or PCP switches from the 2.16 GHz common channel to the target 1.08 GHz operating channel. • If a NP is scheduled on the 2.16 GHz channel, after switching to the 1.08 GHz operating channel, the AP or PCP can implement in the first option proposed in 11-13/1291r2 : • The PCP/AP starts a beacon interval on 1.08 GHz channel with its length set as an integer factor of that on 2.16 GHz channel. • Non-PCP/non-AP can stay on the 1.08 GHz channel only to operate. Qian Chen

  7. Operation on a 1.08 GHz channel (3/3) • Alternatively, if a BHI is scheduled on the 2.16 GHz channel, after switching to the 1.08 GHz operating channel, the AP or PCP can also implement in the second option proposed in 11-13/1282r1 : • The PCP/AP may not start the beacon interval on 1.08 GHz channel but directly execute the following DTI on 1.08 GHz channel until to the end of the current beacon interval on 2.16 GHz channel. • Non-PCP/non-AP must switch between 2.16 GHz channel and 1.08 GHz channel to operate during BHI and DTI, respectively. Qian Chen

  8. Operation on Two 1.08 GHz Channels • Case 1: Two NPs/BHIs of PCP/AP 1 and PCP/AP 2 are arranged consecutively: • Case 2: Two NPs/BHIs of PCP/AP 1 and PCP/AP 2 are arranged apart with each other: • The interval between two NPs/BHIs is indicated by the TBTT Offset subfield of Dynamic Bandwidth Control element transmitted in DMG Beacon frame and Announce frame. Qian Chen

  9. More Details on CDMG MAC • If the existing PCP/AP operates on a 1.08 GHz channel, it can passively response the scanning PCP/AP’s request for the allocation of NP/BHI on 2.16 GHz channel. Alternatively, it can also activelyreserve a time to announce the presence of another NP/BHI on 2.16 GHz channel that allows the scanning PCP/AP to establish its PBSS/infrastructure BSS on the adjacent 1.08 GHz channel. • If the existing PCP/AP operates on a 2.16 GHz channel, the scanning PCP/AP still can start BSS on the adjacent 1.08 GHz channel through channel splitting operation. Conversely, if one of PCPs/APs is absent from its 1.08 GHz channel, the neighboring PCP/AP can smoothly maintain its service on 2.16 GHz channel through channel expansion operation. • Two NPs/BHIs on 2.16 GHz channel for both PCPs/APs can either be arranged consecutively without interspaces or apart from each other for an interval. (See the Figures in the previous slide) Qian Chen

  10. Revised Text The complete revised text proposal to resolve CID 120 is provided in IEEE 802.11-14-0783r0. Suggest to replace Section 9.40 in TGaj draft specifications D0.01 with the revised text proposal. Qian Chen

  13. SP or CBAP Allocation for DMG Legacy STAs PCP/AP 2 knows the latest schedule information from PCP/AP 1 during NP 1. NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 BHI 1 NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 BHI 2 PCP/AP 1 knows PCP/AP 2’s allocation within NP 2; however, PCP/AP 2 may change its allocation in the following medium time. During NP 1, PCP/AP 1 does not have the latest schedule information from PCP/AP 2. • Question: How does the CDMG PCP/AP allocate SPs or CBAPs to DMG non-PCP/non-AP STAs under the channel splitting status? • Difficulties: • PCP/AP 2 can allocate SPs or CBAPs to its DMG STAs on the 2.16 GHz channel based on the received schedule information from PCP/AP 1 during NP 1. However, PCP/AP 1 cannot do so because PCP/AP 2 may change its schedules on the 1.08 GHz channel. • The PCP/AP operating on a 1.08 GHz channel has NO right to allocate time on the whole 2.16 GHz channel without the permit from the neighboring PCP/AP operating on the adjacent 1.08 GHz channel. Qian Chen

  14. Allocation Methods • Solution 1:PCP/AP 1 can explicitly send an Allocation Request frame to PCP/AP 2 and request for an expected allocation on 2.16 GHz channel. If PCP/AP 2 has the enough time to accept, it shall reply an Allocation Response frame with an Extended Schedule element to indicate the schedule of all its available time. Upon obtaining the latest schedule information, PCP/AP 1 allocates SPs or CBAPs for DMG STAs. • Solution 2:The PCP/AP can autonomously announce all its available time reserved for the neighboring PCP/AP to create SPs or CBAPs on 2.16 GHz channel in the following beacon intervals. This can be done through the Extended Schedule element with the AllocationType subfield of an Allocation field set to 4 (define new values) contained in the DMG Beacon frames and Announce frames transmitted during its NP/BHI. Purpose: The schedule information received by a PCP/AP from the neighboring PCP/AP during the latest NP/BHI always effects in the allocation of the current NP/BHI. Qian Chen

  15. Examples of Allocation NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 SP or CBAP for DMG STAs (100) NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 Allocate Announce NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 NP 1 PCP/AP 1 NP 2 PCP/AP 2 SP or CBAP for DMG STAs (100) (100) After PCP/AP 1 allocates SPs or CBAPs during this period, PCP/AP 2 shall not allocate overlapping it. Announce Allocate If PCP/AP 1 announces an interval with Allocationtype set to 4, PCP/AP 2 can allocate SPs or CBAPs for its DMG STAs wihin this period in the current BI. If PCP/AP 2 announces an interval with Allocationtype set to 4, PCP/AP 1 can allocate SPs or CBAPs for its DMG STAs within this period in the next BI. Qian Chen
