Janseva Mandal Empowerment of the weak, marginalized, exploited and the vulnerable irrespective of caste or creed with a preferential option for the weak tribals Jeevan Vidya Striving for empowerment of tribal women through leadership development, financial self-sufficiency and capacity building. Mission

JansevaMandal • Started in 1969 by Bernard Massat a Spanish gentleman for the upliftment of the tribal population • Part of the Jesuit organization Bombay Xavierant Corp. • Had boarding facilities in Shirpur, Khandesh, Manor and Thalassari • Boarding in Nandurbar has been around for the past 15 years • Jeevan Vidya • Earlier operated under Janseva Mandal • For past 8 years autonomously managed by Jeevan Vidya Trust History

Florence Fernandes • Director & treasurer are on the payroll of the parent organization • Campus superintendent, office manager and two helpers for cooking and cleaning • Volunteers help as and when needed • Jeevan Vidya • Director: Ms. Martina Fargose(Previous director, Ms. Margaret D’Britto moved to another project in June 2014) • Hostel warden, gardener cum watchman, two cooks • Volunteers help as and when needed Organization Structure

Provide boarding and lodging facilities to Adivasi children (61 boys and 85 girls) • Curricular • Additional tutoring for Maths, Science and English • Teaching to speak, read and write Marathi • Extra-curricular • Cooking • Computer training • Using sewing machines • Cycling, karate classes • Gardening and composting • Personality development sessions • Clay modeling • Medical checkup camps • Parent meetings Activities

Do not have a formal process to “qualify” students for admissions • Parents normally pay Rs. 2500 per year for the facilities at Janseva and Rs. 3000 at Jeevan Vidya • Students are between 5th and 12th grade and stay around 40-50 kms away from the schools • The school is a 15 min walk from the boarding facility • Students have to follow a set schedule which gives them time for studies and play Operation

With Asha Seattle since Oct 2008 • Asha provides for the operating expenses to run the boarding facility for 120 children • Last year Asha contributed Rs. 7,44,000 for both organizations • Rs. 3,72,00 per organization • Rs. 620 per child per month (for 120 children) • Funds were transferred on a half yearly basis till 2011, then we switched to a yearly basis in 2012 Asha, Seattle Involvement

Jan Seva – 2014-2015 Budget Total cost per Boarders per day = Rs. 55.25 Round figure Rs.56.00 Monthly Cost for 55 Boarders Rs. 56 x 30 days x 55 Boarders = Rs. 92400.00 Annual Cost for 55 Boarders Rs. 92400.00 x 10 Months Rs. 9,24,000.00 Contribution from Boarders Rs. 2,500 x 55 boarders = Rs. 1,37,500.00 Funds required = Rs. 7,86,500.00
