The Resurrection Ephesians 2:1-5
The Resurrection • Three accounts of Jesus foretelling His death and resurrection. Mark 10:32-34 Matthew 20:17-19 Luke 18:31-34 • We need to learn what it means and how important it is for us and for those who have not obeyed.
The Resurrection 1. Understand the resurrection through the scriptures 2. Talk about the importance of this for us as Christians 3. Talk about the importance for those who have not obeyed
1. The Resurrection: What does scripture say? 1.The Resurrection was God’s plan 1 Peter 1:18-21 2. It was necessary for Jesus to die Hebrews 2:9-10 3. It was God’s will and Jesus obeyed Philippians 2:5-10
The Resurrection: The Plan 1. All plans have a beginning John 1:1-5 2. All plans have an end Acts 13:28-34 3. All plans have a goal Romans 5:6-11
2. The Resurrection: important to Christians • Important to our core belief and confidence Colossians 2:8-13 See to it that one one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness of life in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; and you were buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you who were dead in trespasses, and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
The Resurrection: it tells us how to live • Where our minds should be: Colossians 3:1-3If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. • Remember what God has done for us: Ephesians 2:4-7But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ(by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and made us sit with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness towards us in Chris Jesus.
The Resurrection: patience & steadfastness • Waiting for Jesus patiently, faithfully 1 Thessalonians 1:10and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. • Paul’s hope in life, working for goal God wanted for man Philippians 3:8-11
The Resurrection: patience & steadfastness • Waiting for Jesus patiently, faithfully 1 Thessalonians 1:10 • Paul’s hope in life, working for the goal God wants for man Philippians 3:8-11Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
3. The Resurrection: important to those who have not obeyed • God’s plan is to save, not condemn I Peter 3:18-21For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit; in which he went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, where saved through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, • To escape wrath and receive eternal life John 3:36
3. The Resurrection: important to those who have not obeyed • God’s plan is to save, not condemn I Peter 3:18-21 • To escape wrath and receive eternal life John 3:36He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.
The Resurrection: assurance John 6:38-40 • Jesus promises a resurrection to believers Acts 2:30-33 • Foreseen by David, witnessed by the apostles I Corinthians 6:14-15 • We are assured by Christ’s resurrection • Raise us up into God’s presence 2 Corinthians 4:14
