  5. Lead Advisors: Research Skills Toolkit Dr Douglas Halliday is the Director of Durham University’s Global Challenge Centre for Doctoral Training. He is a Co-Director of Durham Institute and runs the Interdisciplinary Centre for Doctoral Training in Energy. His research interests are in the development of sustainable approaches to solar photovoltaic energy. Professor Fiona Denney is the Director of the Brunel Educational Excellence Centre, Brunel University, a member of the Executive Committee of the UK Council for Graduate Education, a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). About Ethical Research The Ethical Research programme takes a new interdisciplinary approach which aims to train learners in the core skills needed to become an ethical researcher. • Becoming an Ethical Researchertakes a theoretical approach to learning about research ethics, covering ethical values, approaches to ethical decision making and exploring ethical challenges across a range of disciplines. • Research Ethics in Practiceexplores the practical application of ethics during a research project and covers working with human participants, data management, ethical approvals and working ethically in a global environment.
