http://www.SiestaKeyFarmersMarket.org Best Handmade Ceramics In Siesta Key- Sarasota Florida. We must include Luna-tiques at the top of the list. So how did Lynne Ostroman and Michael Newman create Luna-tiques Ceramics? They share the following with us. We began our journey with clay in 2002 when we returned to the USA and Sarasota after 17 years spent in the Dominican Republic and Turks & Caicos Islands. After exploring different artistic pathways though various classes, ceramics became the one we both instantly enjoyed. Clay has allowed us to express ourselves with our hands and the intimacy of actually touching the material is like no other medium. The clay surface has become our canvas and a way to express our personal impressions of the surrounding environment. How we interpret what we see around us. The 3 dimensional form allow one's eyes to travel around the shape and one's hand to feel the surface with all its texture. We began by taking pottery classes with Ann Darling at her studio in Sarasota. Over the years we studied with a series of teachers and mentors at Penland School of Crafts, NC; La Meridiana, Certaldo, Tuscany, Italy; Greenwich Pottery, NYC; St Pete Clay/ Morean Center, St. Petersburg, FL and Ghost Ranch, NM.

Our inspiration comes from tropical island memories, present day life in our home, and studio compound in Osprey, Florida. Living and working on the same patch of land has given us the energy to focus on our work.
The sea, the sand, the vegetation, the sky.....they all speak to us. We love mid- century modern design and architecture and those passions also influence our work.
We travel on occasion and try to return to Dominican Republic at least twice a year. Our home studio practice occupies most days as we continue to experiment and evolve. We are full time artists and parents of two Jack Russell Terriers.
Our 28 year old daughter is currently working in NYC as costume coordinator on TV series Gotham, as she seeks her dream of being a costume designer.
We have chosen to sell our creations weekly and exclusively at Siesta Key Village Farmers Market. We especially enjoy the interaction with our patrons who come from all over the globe to visit famous Siesta Key.
Its quite humbling to know our art lives in faraway places like Iceland, Australia, South Africa, Brazil as well as all over North America and Europe.
Most our pieces are truly one of a kind. We like to refer our work as “Functional Art”.
We hope that our pottery has a place in your everyday life and provides a function whether it be only as thing of beauty or an object of daily use.
You can find Lynne and Michael at their Luna-tiques booth every Sunday at the Siesta Key Farmers Market from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, located at 5104 Ocean Blvd in the Village on the beautiful paradise island of Siesta Key, Florida. STOP BY AND SAY HELLO!
