Battle ‘Bots Introduction Mr. Yersak Tech & Design Livingston High School
Your Problem: • Design and build a robot that can be controlled remotely, to disable the opposing robot, or score the most points.
How to win: • Disable the opposing robot using any means other than cutting the control wires. • Force the opposing robot out of the arena. • Score points by placing or driving whiffle balls back to their teams home base.
The Arena: • Will be in the classroom • Tables will be set up together • This means that there will be bumps and gaps to contend with. • There will be open sections randomly placed around the perimeter of the arena. • A border will be established 6” from the edge. This is the boundary line.
The Arena Team 2 Team 1
The Requirements • Robot must operate in a manner safe to humans. • Number of Motors? • Size • Must fit in a 1’ x 1’ x 1’ box. • Weight • 2.0lb or less

Robot Safety • Safety is the #1 priority • Know what you are doing, before you do it. • There is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. • Safety Glasses must be worn at all times • Robots may move suddenly and without warning.
What’s Important? • Concentrate on one item at a time.
Battle Bot • Power source – Electrical • Forward / Reverse • Steering • Offense / Defense / Protection • Gearing
You must choose, but choose wisely….. • Gearing – Speed vs. Power • Weight – Slow vs. agile • Methods – Offensive / Defensive • There are always tradeoffs!
Start Simple - *KISS* • Build a robot that can move forward and backward. • The rest is just details… • A mobile robot is always better. • Build your drive train to last.
There will be many components to your battle bot. Focus on one area at a time and divide the work accordingly.
