One of the most important resources for your success at SHIP is your academic advisor. Every student is assigned to an advisor Declared major – advisor faculty member in academic department Undeclared – advisor in Office of Undeclared Students Your Responsibilities: • to know your advisor’s name, location, office hours; • to initiate contact with your advisor; • to make and keep advising appointments; • to prepare questions and bring any appropriate materials or concerns to the advising meetings; • to see your advisor regularly; • to be responsible for your own success.
When should you see your advisor? • Whenever you encounter any problems that affect your academic performance. • When it is time to schedule classes for next semester. • Whenever you are thinking about dropping or adding a course. • To discuss your academic progress. • To discuss career/internship considerations. • As often as necessary
