  2. Why “Within” Florida • Renewables either have to be imported or be produced within the State • Import limits into peninsular Florida from Georgia are limited at approx. 4,600 MW and are fully subscribed • Building new EHV transmission is problematic as well as expensive

  3. Impetus for RenewablesBoth Administrative and perceived • Governor’s Executive Order to reduce fossil fuel consumption to Year 2000 level • Governor’s request that Public Utility Commission impose a Renewable Portfolio Standard that 20% of ALL electric energy to be provided by renewables • Recognition by citizenry of need to limit greenhouse gas emissions • Economic effects of importing all fuels
