New outcome based standards NCOPE Standards initially adopted in 1993 Revised in 1998, 2004 and 2011 March 2011 – Adopted outcome based residency standards January 2012 – Implemented outcome based June 2012 – Required use of competency forms
NCOPE residency program An orthotic and prosthetic residency program is a post graduate educational program centered on clinical training that results in the resident’s attainment of competencies in the management of comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic patient care.
Residency Program Overview • Residency is second half of an individual’s education and • advancement towards becoming an O & P Professional • 12-months per discipline • 18-months combined • For Graduates of Master’s Programs • Not Available in the state of Florida • Competency Based • Clinical or Research & Development Track and complete a Professional Activity • Director/Mentor must have formalized O & P education • Use of online tracking system
Residency Tracks • Clinical Track • Choose one per quarter (you can choose the same activity twice) • Critically Assessed Topic • Journal Club Presentation • Case Presentation • Professional In-service • Presentation at grand rounds, state, regional, national or international meeting • Research & Development Track • Complete a directed study throughout your residency • Upload Final Paper to online tracking system • Complete a Directed Study Statement Form • Complete a Directed Study Coversheet
All Residents, regardless of Residency Track, must also perform one of the following activities and can optionally upload supportive documentation to online tracking system: Give an O & P Awareness Presentation Volunteer with an O & P Organization (humanitarian or professional)
Residency Terms For Single discipline residency 12 –months “full time” training For Dual discipline residency 18-months “full time” training Resident’s extending their credential may spend 50% of their time in their certified discipline and 50% of their time in their residency discipline. • Full Time = 37.50 hours per week • Part Time = 20 hours per week
How do I know when an evaluation is due? Timeline available on NCOPE website Quarters are for a period of 3 months each 30 days from the end of the quarter to submit evaluations before considered “late” Residents get a WARNING message in Typhon

Who can evaluate the resident? • Residency Director • With formalized O & P education • 5-years post certification experience • Completed online development course • Residency Mentor • State Licensed or certified in the discipline being taught • CAAHEP accredited education or equivalent to ISPO Category I • 3 years post certification experience • Completed online development course As of 1/22/2013
Residency Program on-line Development Course is required… **Pay $50.00 to earn 2 business credits towards MCE for ABC
Paperless residency As of June 1, 2010 2008 Piloted New Innovations software—more medically driven NCOPE decided to use Typhon for residency after 1 year piloting process. All directors, mentors and residents are required to use for residency program.

APPROVING PATIENT ENCOUNTERS As of June 1, 2012, Residency Directors and Mentors are not required to approve a residents patient encounters but may do so optionally. Please Note: You only have access to patient encounters where the resident named you as “clinical faculty”
NCOPE Creates your Typhon account • Based on information from resident registration form • Will receive two confirmation email messages • From Robin Seabrook via Typhon – with password and link to log in. • From Typhon Mailbox with specific details related to your resident. Includes instructions and competency listing.

ABOUT Typhon Some O & P Programs are utilizing Required for all residents Must have an active email account NCOPE will set up an account for you when your resident registers. Receive 2 confirmation emails with log in information and information related specifically to your resident(s)
Typhon Lingo… • Facility/Account Number = 9045 • All users under NCOPE will use (you never have to enter this) • Residency Director’s and Mentor’s = Clinical Faculty/Preceptor • Login Type is “Clinical Faculty” and requires “EASI” password to sign in • Residents = Students • Login Type is “Data Entry” and requires a log in name and password • Residency Site = Clinical Site • Added by NCOPE staff when a resident registers
Access Fee of $75.00 for Residents The very first time a resident logs in, they are directed to an online payment page. Access fees must be paid by credit card (Amex, Visa, MasterCard or Discover) Typhon Access fee is separate from registration. Resident will have 3 years of access. Great for consecutive residencies. • First time logging in, residents must set up defaults i.e., facility name, residency director, etc. • Residency directors and mentors to not have an access fee. ***Fees are paid directly to Typhon
Resident Responsibilities in Typhon Refer to residency track guidelines at www.ncope.org Uploading is optional in some cases.
Director/Mentor Responsibilities in Typhon Instructions will be provided to the director/mentor from NCOPE.
Quarterly Evaluations and Competency Forms • Director/Mentor Quarterly Form • Director must complete the final quarter evaluation
Clinical Competency Forms to be completed once resident demonstrates competence (not quarterly)
Logging into Typhon via www.ncope.org Click on Typhon Instructions for the Director and Staff to access login page. Typhon Reference Guide & PowerPoint Presentation also available New Website in 2013!!!!!!
To begin filling out an evaluation form…. Click on the form Enter Password if applicable (EVAL2012) Choose your residents name from the drop down menu Answer questions that apply to your resident only. Click submit evaluation once complete.
Select your resident’s name from the drop down menu • If you don’t find your residents name, contact NCOPE • You can see all resident’s names but only have access to your resident’s information • Click continue
RESPOND TO QUESTIONS RELATED TO YOUR RESIDENT ONLY… • Forms include both orthotic and prosthetic content • Content is tied to Standards • Some questions are required
Submitting evaluations • Once complete, click “SUBMIT COMPLETED EVALUATION” • Typhon confirms evaluation has been submitted. • Able to print responses after submitting.
