  1. PENKNIFE RELIGION JEREMIAH 36:20-24

  2. So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and they reported all the words to the king. Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and Jehudi read it to the king and all the princes who stood beside the king. It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house and there was a fire burning in the brazier before him. As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a penknife and throw them into the fire in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. Yet neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words, was afraid, nor did they rend their garments.

  3. The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah. God told him to the write the word that he had received in a scroll. Baruch wrote on the scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah Jeremiah was barred from the temple. Baruch had to go to the temple and read the scroll. A prince heard it. Told the others After hearing it themselves they reported it to the king. Jehoiakim and his princes mocked God’s message. He took a penknife and would cut thee or four columns at a time and throw them in the fire. Today there are many who have the same attitude Jehoiakim had. Tonight, let’s study some modern day Jehoiakims.

  4. The Unbelievers’ Penknife Jehoiakim would hear a few columns read cut them out and throw them in the fire. He refused to believe it. There are people today after reading a few pages in Genesis take out their mental penknife. They don’t want to hear In the beginning God… They refuse to believe that God created the world and everything on it, in six days. They don’t want to hear about the fall of man and the origin of sin. They deny God and His word.

  5. The Bible refers to such people. Psalms 53:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God.'' What will be the end of these people? Romans 1:24-26, 28 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

  6. The Penknife Of Modern Theology And Philosophy This a very mild and subtle form of atheism. They deny: The Genesis account of creation Bible Miracles The virgin birth The resurrection The flood They comprise with theistic evolution. They deny certain Bible doctrines Heaven & Hell The need for atonement The area of morals and situation ethics. Yet they say we need to believe in Christ.

  7. II Timothy 3:5 Holding the form of religion (godliness) but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Malachi 3:6 "For I, the LORD, do not change; Hebrews 13:5 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

  8. The Penknife Of Denominationalism When they don’t want to accept certain doctrines they use their mental penknife and cut them out. If you don’t want to believe in baptism cutout verses like Matthew 28:19-20 Mark 16:16 Acts 2:38 Acts 22:16 I Peter 3:21 Acts 16:33 Galatians 3:26-27 Acts 8:12-13; 36-38 More than one church cut out verses like Ephesians 4:4 There is one body Matthew 16:18 "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; Acts 20:28 …the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

  9. Do you believe one cannot fall from grace? Cut out Galatians 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Galatians 6:1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Hebrews 3:12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

  10. The Penknife Of Certain Church Members Some members of the church don’t like certain commands so again they get out their mental penknife and cut out verses that deal with Faithfulness Helping the needy The need to study Revelation 2:10 Be faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life. Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. II Timothy 2:15 Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

  11. Church Attendance Teaching Others Be An Example Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. Mark 16:16 "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;” I Timothy 4:12 Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.

  12. Jehoiakimism Does Not Alter God’s Word You can do many things to God’s word. You can: Cut it Erase it Pervert it Mar it Tear it Reject it Deny it Burn it But this will not do away with God’s word. Psalms 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever. I Peter 1:24-25 “The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever.'' Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

  13. The Word Will Judge Us In The End John 12:48 "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” Revelation 20:11-12 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
