Adobe Curriculum (5) • In order to use the Adobe Curriculum, you will need to create an Adobe Username and Password • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and select > Adobe Photoshop Curriculum • Before you can access the link, you will be prompted to sign it. In order to do this, you will have to create a Username and PW. Once created, you can then sign into the Adobe Curriculum and access the tutorials and exercises.

  9. Raster vs Vector Tutorial (5) • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com • Select tutorials • Select Tutorial #1 – Raster vs Vector and read the tutorial

  10. Raster vs Vector (10) • Photoshop is a Raster (Pixel Based) Program • Uses squares of colors known as pixels. Forms a Grid. • # of Pixels Per Inch determines the size/resolution. • Resolution and size of file is dependent on number of pixels and how large the file is. • Illustrator is a Vector Based Program • Uses mathematical points and calculations. • Appears to look like a cartoon. • Can be stretched to billboard size but the size of the file will never be different and the quality will always look consistent. Resolution Independent.

Opening Photoshop (20) • All students go to Finder, Apps and open Photoshop • The name of a Photoshop Document is called a Canvas • Walk through Creating New Document (students do with me) • Name • Preset – Show different options • Width/Height – Explain difference between pixels and inches and file size • Resolution – PPI(monitor) vs LPI(old printer) vs DPI(printer) • RGB, CMYK and Grayscale • Background – White, Transparent, Color – Show how to use paint bucket to change BG color • Saving a Preset

  17. New Photoshop Document (5) • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and click on tutorials. Read Tutorial #2 New Photoshop Document.

New Photoshop Document Activity (5) • Open a new Photoshop Document that is: • Named – My first Photoshop Document • Preset = Custom • Width = 800 pixels • Height = 600 pixels • Color Mode = 96 pixels/inch 8 bit • Background Contents = Transparent • Change the Background Color to Red • Save Preset and Name it: 800 x 600

Saving a Photoshop Document (5) • Go to your File Tab and select Save As • Then select your Desktop • Then select the folder on your Desktop we created to save your Photoshop documents in • In the Format area, make sure it says Photoshop • The default file for saving in Photoshop in .PSD which stands for Photoshop Document. • You cannot post .PSD to wordpress. You will need to save as a .jpg, .png or .gif to post to Wordpress. • Now select Save

Saving a JPG to Post to Wordpress (10) • Go to your File Tab and select Save As • Name the file: First PS JPG • Then select your Desktop • Then select the folder on your Desktop we created to save your Photoshop documents in • In the Format area, make sure it says JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) • Now select Save • Now post this to your Wordpress Page as your first Photoshop Document

  21. CMYK vs RGB (5) • CMYK – Subtractive Color Model • Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black • 4 Color Model • Used in Printing • Easy way to remember – Think of a white piece of paper, adding CMYK color subtracts from light.

  22. CMYK vs RGB • RGB – Additive Color Model • Red, Green, Blue • 3 Color Model • Used for a computer screen or television • Easy way to remember – RGB is used to add light to a dark computer monitor or a dark television screen

Creating a New PS Document from Clipboard (5) • Go to a web browser, preferably Chrome • Go to google.com • In the search bar, type Arnold • Now select Images and find an image of Arnold and click on that image • Now right click that image and select > Copy Image • Now go to Photoshop and select New > then name it Arnold and Click OK (Notice the preset says Clipboard) • Now press Cmd + V

  24. Creating a New PS Document from Clipboard (5) • Now Save this file as Arnold.jpg and post this on your Wordpress page

Default Document Resolution (5) • When creating a new document, you are asked what resolution you would like your document to be. • The standard resolution for a Windows monitor is 72 pixels/inch • The standard resolution for a Mac monitor is 96 pixels/inch • High resolution is used for printing. Anything above 150 pixels/inch is considered high res. Most printers do not print above 300 pixels/inch • If you are creating something for the web only, there is no need to create the resolution higher then 96 pixels/inch or ppi.

Shapes, Colors, Text, Effects, Layers Basics (30) • Show Shape Tools • Students create one of each basic shape • Show how to move a shape with black pointer tool • Show Text – Font type, size, selecting it • Students create and edit basic text • Show how to change color of shapes and type • Students change color of shapes and type • Show fill/stroke color • Color palettes • Show how to use the effects (FX) • Have students add effects to type and shapes

Shapes, Colors, Text, Effects, Layers Basics (30) • Show basics of Layers • Auto Select • Hiding/Showing Layers • Locking/Unlocking Layers • Arranging Layers – Send frontward, backward, to the front, to the back • Moving Layers • New Layer, Duplicate Layer or Trash/Delete Layer • Rasterize Shape Layer - Erasing • Merge Visible, Flattening Layers, Linking Layers • Students create several layers and practice the above Layering

  29. OSU Nameplate Activity (20) • Create an OSU Nameplate • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and go to the activities page. Do Activity #1 on the page and post to your Wordpress account.

  30. Smart Guides (5) • One tool that can help you line images up more precisely is the Smart Guide. • To access Smart Guides, go to the View dropdown menu at the top of Photoshop > Select Extras > Select Smart Guides. • You can then drag items around the screen to see different alignments and how the align with other things on the page. • You can also use this same area to select The Grid to help you align things.

Personal Nameplate Activity (20) • Create a Personal Nameplate that includes • Make it the same size as the OSU Nameplate • Include your First and Last Name • Include your own effects, colors and shapes. • When you are finished, trim the image and save it as a .jpg named myname_nameplate.jpg in your folder on the desktop • Post it to Wordpress

Placing an Image in Photoshop (10) • To place an image into a Photoshop document, you will need to (walkthrough with students): • Open a new Photoshop document • Go to the File dropdown menu at the top of the page • Select Place • Then navigate to your image and select place • There will be a box around the image and an X through it. You can resize the image before you select Return to permanently place it. • You can also press Shift while you resize the image to keep it in proper perspective. • Now you practice placing a couple images on your own.

  34. Manipulating Images and Shapes (20) • When you place an image, draw a shape or place text, you can transform those items by Resizing, Cropping, Rotating or Transforming. • To Transform an image, select the image you want to transform and go to the Edit dropdown menu and select transform. You will then get the different transforming options. • Go through these with students. Scale, Rotate, Skew, Distort, Perspective, Warp, Rotate and Flip. • Have students practice each of these on their own. • Show Free Transform. • Cmd + T

  35. Resize, Rotate and Crop Tutorial (15) • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and select Tutorials. • Read and do Tutorial #3 – Resizing, Rotating and Cropping

Image Manipulation Activity (20) • Place an Image into Photoshop • Flip the image horizontally • Rotate the image to a different angle • Skew the image and make it look different • Distort the image as well • Change the Scale and Perspective of the image • Finally, Warp the Image • Now Save the Image as yourname_manip.jpg and post to your Wordpress

  37. Polaroid Warp Activity (20) • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and go to the Activities Section. • Do the Polaroid Warp Activity together. • Have students do the Polaroid Warp Activity independently. • When completed, post to your Wordpress account as yourname_polaroid_warp.jpg

  38. Polaroid Warp Activity 2 (20) • Create 2 More Polaroid Warps and Post to your WordpressPortfolio.

Selection Tools (30) • Have students read Selection tools under tutorials on daccphotoshop.wordpress.com • Walk through the following selection tools with students • Marquee • Cmd + A • Cmd + D • Cmd + X • Lasso • Magic Wand • Tolerance • Quick Selection • Select Inverse • Layer via copy, cut, transform, fill, stroke

  43. Selection Tools Activity (30) • Place an image of a person that shows their full body into Photoshop. • Use the quick selection tool to select the entire body and layer it via cut. The place a different background behind the body that you just cut out. Use the blur tool to smooth the edges. • Save the image as yourname_quickselect.jpg and post to Wordpress. • Place another image of another full body person into Photoshop. • This time,use the magnetic lasso tool to trace around the body of the person and layer via cut. Place a new background behind the cutout body. Use the blur tool to smooth edges. • Save the image as yourname_magnetic.jpg and post to Wordpress.

  44. Image Adjustments (30) • Open a sample image in Photoshop and apply the image adjustments with students. • Auto Corrections • Image Adjustment Options • Have students practice Image Adjustment tools on an image of their choice

Photo Retouching (20) • Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and read the tutorial about How to Photo Retouch. • Walk through all of the retouching tools with students and retouch a family photo. • Crop and Straighten • Red Eye Tool • Spot Healing Brush • Clone Stamp Tool • Selection Tools • Blur Tool

  46. Photo Retouching Activities (90) • 1. Red Eyes - Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and place the red eye 1 and 2 images into photoshop and correct the red eye and save and place on Wordpress. • 2. Jones Family Photo 1 – Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and place the Jones family photo 1 into Photoshop and make it look presentable then save it as yourname_jones1.jpg and place it in Wordpress. • 3. Jones Family Photo 2 - Go to daccphotoshop.wordpress.com and place the Jones family photo 2 into Photoshop and make it look presentable then save it as yourname_jones2.jpg and place it in Wordpress.
