Ten Chapters • Each chapter follows this format: • Chapter Problem • Get Ready • Three-Part Lesson • Chapter Review • Practice Test • Cumulative reviews after 3 chapters • At end of chapters 3,6, and 9 • Glossary • Definitions of mathematical terms used in the book
Chapter Set-up Outcomes for the chapter are at the beginning of each chapter.
Each chapter begins with a chapter problem that connects math to the students’ world.
Ideas from the chapter problem recur in the Check Your Understanding sections throughout the chapter and concludes at the end of the Practice Test.
The “Get Ready” Section • “Get Ready” is a brief review of the skills that are important for the students to understand before beginning the new chapter.
The Three-Part Lesson Investigate Guide Instruct • Part One • Discover the Math • Examples and Solutions • Part Two • Communicate the Key Ideas • Part Three • Check Your Understanding Reflect Practice
Discover the Math • These activities are designed to help students build their own understanding of the math. • They may be done • individually • in small groups • together as a class • as teacher-led instruction
Examples and Solutions • Worked solutions to examples show students step-by-step methods to solve the problems.
Communicate the Key Ideas • This is the chance for students to write and talk about the concepts from the first part of the lesson (DTM). • Here students and teachers can assess the students’ understanding of the concepts.
Check Your Understanding • In the “Check Your Understanding” section, there are a variety of questions that require different levels of understanding. • Straightforward Questions • Application Questions • Assessment Questions • Extend Questions
