Increasing contraceptive choice and LARC uptake Facilitating Access to LARCs • Baseline needs assessment and identification of barriers (provider and demand side) • Facilitating access through; • Procurement guides • Advocating for wider provision (supporting nurses’ roles in SRH) • Addressing barriers to training • Deep Implant removals • Keeping LARCs on the agenda

Increasing contraceptive choice and LARC uptake Facilitating Access to Training • Provider side barriers include lack of a ‘push’ for LARCs, perception that training is difficult to access, lack of info on numbers and location of trainers • Facilitating access through; • Training capacity information • Publicising the Amnesty • Encouraging training • Simplifying training pathways

Increasing contraceptive choice and LARC uptake Roles of the GP Champions • Key roles: networking, sharing information, ‘championing’ • Mapping local and national enhanced schemes for LARCs in primary care – wide variation in provision/incentives across London • Lobbying key decision-makers on the importance of LARC provision in the future • Facilitating access through; • Master classes on IUDs • Encouraging training (e-Diploma, survey of GP trainers) • READ codes • Procurement guides • Linking with CaSH trainers

  7. Increasing contraceptive choice and LARC uptake Roles of the GP Champions - Barriers • Difficult to access information on current LARC provision in primary care • Advocating for an SRH approach in primary care – time for advocacy

Workplan to End of 2012 LARC in General Practice • Survey of GP trainers published • Position paper on LARC in primary care for lobbying • Encouraging the development of new crop of LARC trainers in primary care Dissemination of Good Practice • Develop LLN Newsletter, LSHP website to disseminate LLN progress, general information and clinical updates on all issues relating to LARC commissioning and service provision • Host London LARC Event – 10th March 2012 • Showcasing and sharing successful models of: training and commissioning

Workplan to end of 2012 Commissioning • Prepare for new commissioning arrangements • Educate and lobby commissioners for an evidence informed, client centred choice approach to contraception provision, including abortion services Clinical Practice • Sharing of standardised patient group directions (PGDs) for nurses • Sharing of good training models/pathways for LARCs • More detailed evidence on implant removals and sharing of good practice where removal rates are low • LARC service provision commissioning practice
