This document presents the results and conclusions of a study on the transverse impedance of the PS Dump, including the effective imaginary impedance and resonant modes. The study shows that the contribution of the effective impedance is small compared to the rest of the machine, indicating stability. Further validation of the model is recommended.

Transverse Impedance of the PS Dump D. Ventura, B. Popovic, B. Salvant Impedance Working Group, 11-10-2018
Overview • Thanks to Branko we have a new model of the Dump with a study of the longitudinal part. • A study of the transverse part is needed to understand if the contribution is critical or not. • The results of the study are shown for X and Y planes. I will show the effective imaginary impedance and the resonant modes
Effective Impedance • Dipolar X (Imaginary Part) with a displacement of 8 mm on axis / /
Effective Impedance • Dipolar X (Imaginary Part) with a displacement of 8 mm on axis Effectiveimpedance for PS elements / / • Very small contribution compared to the rest of the machine.
Effective Impedance • Dipolar Y (Imaginary Part) already scaled with a displacement of 8 mm on axis /
Effective Impedance • Dipolar Y (Imaginary Part) already scaled with a displacement of 8 mm on axis Effectiveimpedance for PS elements / • Very small contribution compared to the rest of the machine
Resonant Mode • Dipolar X (Real Part) Q = 2500
Resonant Mode • Dipolar Y (Real Part)
Conclusions • We need a Transverse Impedance study to validate the model of the Dump • The study was done with a displacement of 8 mm • Effective impedance contributions are not worrying for stability (a factor 10 to 100 smaller than KFA71)
