. Opportunity to work on Green Buildings Present day buildings have impact on environment 1- Buildings (Electricity + Heat + Construction) = 47.5% 2- Transportation = 25% 3 - Land-Use Change & Forestry = 22% 4- Other = 5.5%
Why we need Green Buildings • In general, buildings account for a high proportion of resource use and waste generation, as follows: • 15% of potable water consumption • 30% of waste output • 40% of carbon dioxide emissions • 40% of raw materials use • 50% of energy use; and • 70% of electricity consumption
What is a Green Building ? “A Building that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs”
Reducing environmental impact with green buildings Green building code and certification systems have proliferated recently as communities attempt to reduce the environmental impacts of the built environment. Below mentioned three systems reduces environmental impacts on average between 0 and 25 percent across 12 environmental impact categories Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), ASHRAE 189.1, and the International Green Construction Code (IgCC).
