Past Perfect: Form and Use All verbs and persons had + past participle: had been, had travelled Past perfect of have got is: had had • Past Perfect is used to jump back into the prior past for: • events whose relevance does not become clear until a later stage; or • creating a sense of drama when the cause of an event is not known until a later time.
