What was the crime? • The brutal murder of at least 5 women • Each woman was killed by a deeply slashed throat • There were also abdominal/genital-area mutilation • Mutilation of uterus • Facial mutilation • Every woman was a prostitute and drunk at the time of the murder
The Victims (known) • Mary Nichols • Murdered August 31st 1888 • Annie Chapman • Murdered September 8th 1888 • Elizabeth Stride • Murdered September 30th 1888 • Catherine Eddowes • Murdered September 30th 1888 • Mary Kelly • Murdered November 9th 1888 • These are the ones that he was known to have, there are many more that he is thought to have done as well.

How did the criminal get caught? • He was never caught
What psychological disorder does the criminal have? • It is not known, because we never caught him.
What sentence did the criminal get? • Jack the Ripper was not ever caught so he did not get in trouble
The Suspect • Jack the Ripper was never identified • New evidence points the finger at a Sir John Williams • Sir John was a surgeon in the 1880’s in London • His great-great-great-great nephew found a knife matching the description, in his attic among Sir John’s possessions. • It was known that he had an obsession with why his wife could not get pregnant.
The Evidence • Sir John was a surgeon in the 1880’s in London • It was widely known that Jack the Ripper would have significant medical knowledge. • His great-great-great-great nephew found a knife matching the description, in his attic among Sir John’s possessions. • The knife had DNA still on it. • Also among his possessions were 3 glass slides containing smears of a uterus. • After he was named a suspect initially, he fled London and was later found in Wales.
Why did the offender commit the crimes? • If it was Sir John, the reason he would have committed it is unknown but it has been thought to be because he went insane with the fact that his wife could not get pregnant which would explain why the uterus of the women were mutilated.
Why is he so famous for only killing 5 women? • He was not the first serial killer but he was the most famous back then • Jack the Ripper was a name that the newspapers made up • His crimes became infamous because the newspapers wrote about his crimes daily • The mystery as to who it was and why still hang in the air • Every single murder was extremely brutal and in the middle of the street, but there were never any witnesses. • He left every corpse in the middle of the road to be found the next morning. • Many believe that his case started criminology, the first criminal profile was done on him.
