  2. Key Message • Serious VehicleCrash occurs when: • Drivers speed excessively • Change lanes carelessly • And weave in and out of traffic without regard for other vehicles.

Speeding - Reaction Time • Each increase in speed reduces your ability to react in time to hazards, because you may be covering distance in less time than it takes to react • Each increase in speed Normal reaction time is between 0.75 second and 2 seconds. These numbers do not include braking distance, just reaction time • The average difference in reaction-time distance from 50 mph to 70 mph is about 40 feet

  4. Speeding - Reaction Time … • Speeding is more than about exceeding the speed limit. Gauge your speed according to: • Traffic Conditions • Road Conditions • Weather Conditions

  5. Lane Change - Reminders • Keep lane changes to a minimum. Stay in your lane until necessary to change your lane • Try to plan ahead and change your lane in advance depending on the direction you are heading • Maintain safe distance when you see another driver making excessive lane changes

  6. Lane Change – Reminders … • Lane changing and weaving seldom saves time but it might just cause an accident • Check all mirrors and your blind spot before changing your lane
