  5. India • 1.2 billion people (2nd most populous in the world)  4x more than USA • 33% live in poverty 15% in USA • Two major religions: • Hindu (87%) • Muslim (13%)

  6. Hinduism • 900 million believers (mostly in India) • Polytheistic  many gods and goddesses (Muslims are monotheistic) • everyone shares a universal soul (brahman) • reincarnation: return to earth until you reach enlightenment

  7. Instructions • Read the article about “Race in America”. • In your notebook, begin answering the discussions questions (“Wonderings”) using details from the readings. • You have 10 minutes before the discussion begins.
