  8. How can you control pollution and waste? First, determine which issues are the most important to manage, how do you do that?By using the risk assessment process (module 2). What is the likelihood of something going wrong that could negatively effect the environment and what would be the consequences?

Emergency procedures The best way to manage environmental risk is to have a systematic approach, as when managing health and safety risks : If a pollution incident occurs, all necessary action should be taken to minimise the size and any adverse effects of the release. If the incident presents an immediate threat to human health or property, Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW Police and the NSW Ambulance Service should be contacted first for emergency assistance - phone 000. The other response agencies must still be contacted after that to satisfy notification obligations. Emergency procedure

  13. How business can help reduce pollution and waste? - Example Recycling their fluorescent lamps, office paper, and cardboard. Avoid using aerosol spray cans. Conserve energy and purchase energy efficient equipment. Educate yourself and your employees; learn as much as possible about pollution. Have your vendor give you information on water-based or  low-polluting alternatives to the solvents, coatings, adhesives, and paints you use. Increase efficiency and minimize waste. Keep all solvents, paints, and adhesives covered when not in use. Label all containers to prevent mistakes that might result in wastes requiring disposal.
