  1. Back to School -Classroom Expectations Welcome to Mrs. Grashorn’s Reading and Writing Workshop

Mrs. Grashorn • BA Elementary (K-8) Education/Psychology, Kean University • MA Art of Teaching, MaryGrove College • Taught in Mountainside and East Hanover School Districts • Grades 6-8th LAL, Science, Social Studies, Basic Skills Support (Reading & Writing) • Live locally and have 2 daughters one in the District (9th grade) and a freshmen in college

Responsibility for Class • Bring notebook, agenda, pen/pencils, highlighter, and a book to class. • Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. • All assignments are posted on the board, on my School Wires page, written daily in the agenda book, and on Google Classroom. Remind 101 texts/emails notifications can be used for upcoming quizzes, tests or projects. School Wires Remind 101

  4. Policies • Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. • Always have a book with you to complete Silent Sustained Reading time (SSR). • Absences • Ask classmates first for assignments or check School Wires on the website. There will also be a “We Missed You” folder with your assignments. • Each absence has a two-day grace period.

  5. Grading - Posted online on Genesis • Grades are based on: 2/3 Minor Assessments • Classwork • Homework • Quizzes • Notebook Checks • Participation & Preparedness 1/3 Major Assessments • Major/Group projects • Book reports • Tests • Essays • Our Grading Scale • 98-100% = A+ • 95-97% = A • 92-94% = A- • 89-91% = B+ • 86-88% = B • 83-85% = B- • 80-82% = C+ • 77-79% = C • 74-76% = C- • 71-73% = D+ • 68-70% = D • 65-67% = D • 64- Below = F

  6. My Pledge to Your Student….. • I will trust them until they give me reason to do otherwise. • I will respect them and work with them to solve problems. • I will promptly correct and offer feedback on their work. • I will work with them to meet learning goals. • I will offer extra help before/after school and during lunch.
