Just ask Jim Johnston, PTA Treasurer Income • Programs-Learning to Soar: $3900 • Classroom Fund: $860.00 • Read a Thon: $226.00 • Legislation: $280.00 • SEC To Date: $996.25 • Read a Thon: $12,756 • Movie Night: $262 • Popcorn: $57.50 Taxes are done – Thank You Erin!

Committee Reports & Announcements • Legislative Report • Thank you for voting!! • Legislative Assembly • Proposals discussed and voted on during the 2011 Legislative Assembly – all passed! • the achievement gaps • early learning • highly capable programs • The juvenile justice system • Public charter schools • 6. school zone signage. • The issues have been added as “supported” and together with the Top 6 issues and • positions approved last year will make up the WA State PTA legislative platform for 2011-12. http://www.wastatepta.org/advocacy/ Current WA State PTA Platform1. Following up on reform efforts 2. Math and science instruction 3. Literacy screening and instruction 4. Reduction in force policies (layoffs) 5. Fund education first 6. New model for teacher compensation.

Committee Reports & Announcements • Social Services • 750 lbs of food (approx. value is $1,125) to Hopelink! • 145 lbs of candy to the soldiers and $145 donated to the PTA! • Toy Drive coming right after Thanksgiving. Teen gifts really needed. • Reflections • Art work must be mounted and the Reflections form completed and signed • Due on Wed. 11/16 in the office

Committee Reports & Announcements • Read-a-Thon Wrap Up • Thank you to all!! • Family Night on Tues., 11/29 – Louie Foxx • the Society of American Magicians voted Louie The Best Stage Magician and Best Close Up Magician • Science Fair • New and exciting changes which will make science fun for all!!

  8. Committee Reports & Announcements • Book Fair • Starts right after Thanksgiving – Monday (11/28) – Friday Lunch (12/2) • Need volunteers! Let Candy Coalman know! • Family Night on Tues., 11/29 – Louie Foxx • the Society of American Magicians voted Louie The Best Stage Magician and Best Close Up Magician • PTA Copier • Posting on Craig’s List • Reminder on school copier use: • Limited to a few people and at specific times – please • take all copier needs to your Exec Team Contact • School Directory • Will be distributed prior to Nov. early release days

New Business • Update to Standing Rules • Propose assign Grant Writing as Committee/Board position • To date in 2011/2012 school year 3 grants have been written: • National PTA Grant Healthy Kids – Not awarded • Lowe’s grant for material to build green house/garden area – Results known in January • National PTA Applegate grant – All school “Recess Bags” – Results known in January

New Business • Geography Bee Club • Currently a Free program offered to students in grades 4-6 • Propose having its own budget line item in the amount of $210 • Budget utilized for the following: • $90 School Registration fee with the National Geographic Society • Supplies for participants (blow up globes, placemats, prizes). Amount spent for 16 Participants this year: $116.03 • Beginning in 2012-2013 School Year, introduce a $10 per student fee to help offset club costs

New Business • Arrowhead PTA Cooking Club • A new program offered to students starting in January 2012 • Propose having its own budget line item in the amount of $450 • Budget utilized for the following: • $300 – 6 classes @$50/class – food and supplies (may have professional chef come 1-2 times to present) • Include a $10 per student Club participation fee to help offset the cost of food/supplies • $150 – Student created cookbooks [To be sold via PTA website and functions to recover costs]

New Business • Overage Discussion • Overage amount: $7,000 • Past gifts to the school with overage have included: • $10k to the playground • $9k for the climbing wall • $5k for the drumming program. • PTA MISSION STATEMENT • Arrowhead Elementary PTA will promote the welfare of all students, provide staff support, foster teacher and parent/community cooperation and enrich student learning.

Upcoming Dates TOMORROW Veteran’s Day Assembly - 2:30pm – Gym NOVEMBER 11/10 – 11/11 – Non Student Day & No School (Veteran’s Day) 11/16 (Wedn.) – Reflections Entry Due – box in the office 11/17 – 11/23 – Early Dismissal – 12:15pm for conferences 11/24 – 11/25 – Thanksgiving – no school 11/28– 12/02 – Book Fair – all week 11/29 (Tues.) – Family Night - Louie Foxx – Entertainer: 6:30pm (gym – free event) DECEMBER Events & Clubs 12/2– Popcorn Friday 12/5 – 12/9 - Holiday Gift Drive 12/6 – PTA General PTA Meeting 12/6 & 12/13 (Tues.) – Holiday Art (2 weeks total) 12/19 – Holiday Break Begins
