Goal and comparison to the rube project Goal: provide an opportunity for a student to connect actions that occur in the world outside the classroom to the physics concepts discussed inside the class Comparison: • all Photography, Connections to Physics Concepts, and Calculation requirements are similar between 2 projects
Biggest differences • Instead of building a rube to provide examples, all connections and calculations will be made to images captured on videotape or in pictures. • More connections and calculations will be required in the alternative project than rube. • Alternative project is an individual project, sharing of images, video will result in lower scores
Requirements for visual images • Visual material can come from: • Video filmed by students (others) • Pictures taken by student (others) • Magazines • Internet • At least ½ of the calculations must be based on images captured by the student • All images are edited and put on to a disk to be turned in. • A system to organize an identify which image is matched to a particular connection or calculation must be created
Non-visual requirements For 100% credit on the project, you must: • Identify 35 connections from the list provided • Calculate 35 values from list provided
Final requirements • Mousetrap game list of transfers and transformations • Rube-style cartoon (Earl’s automatic belly rubber) list of physics connections • A list of at least 5 sequential transfers of energy that occur at an event outside of a classroom.
Date Due • Edited DVD with video, lists with calculations, connections, transfers must be turned in by Thursday, May the 20th during class.
