  3. When did the Neo-impressionism begin? • The French artist Georges Seurat brought Neo-impressionism. His 1883 masterpiece Bathers at Asnieres featured the style. He studied color theory publications made by Charles Blanc, Ogden Rood, and Mochel Eugene Chevreul. He also made a precise application of the painted dots that would mix optically for maximum brilliance. He called this system Chromoluminarism.

  4. Mood How long was this movement?board • The movement lasted from 1884 to 1935. That year marked the death of Paul Signac, a champion and spokesman of the movement that was heavily influenced by Seurat. He died in 1891 at the young age of 31 after likely developing meningitis and a number of other illnesses. Other proponents of Neo-impressionism include the artists Camille Pissarro, George Lemmen, and Henry Edmond Cross.

  5. What were the key ideas? • A lot of the Neo-impressionists held anarchist beliefs. The depictions of the peasants and working class called attention to the social struggles taking place as the rise of industrial capitalism obtained speed, and their search for harmony in art paralleled the vision of a utopian society.
