What have we actually seen? Electrotechnology - DC Circuits: (01)The Basics • What metal are most cables and wires made from? • What units are used to measure the difference in charge between two points? • Is the voltage across the terminals of a battery exactly equal to the voltage printed on it? • What is meant by the bands of colour on a resistor? • What is produced when electric current flows through a resistor?
Activity 1 Electrotechnology - DC Circuits: (01)The Basics Print this page and draw, in red pen, the path that the current must have taken to complete the circuit.
Activity 2 Electrotechnology - DC Circuits: (01)The Basics Find the “Resistor Colour Code” on the Internet and print it out. Use it to work out the resistance of the resistor in the experiment.
Activity 3 Electrotechnology - DC Circuits: (01)The Basics Reconnect the circuit and watch what happens to the battery voltage over a period of time. Explain your observations.
Activity 4 Electrotechnology - DC Circuits: (01)The Basics Disconnect the resistor and then test the terminal voltage again. This is the open-circuit voltage or no-load voltage. Note any changes.
