Unit 6a: Worship and Community • Think about the features of worship in a particular religion. • What sort of personal preparations are made before worship? • What items are used during the act of worship? • Are there any readings from sacred texts used during the worship? • How are the features of the worship significant to believers? • What do the different features symbolise/what meaning do they have? • When you have thought about these things, produce a leaflet for your chosen religion explaining how a particular act of worship is carried out, what items are needed etc. • Make sure you do not miss out any of the features and make sure you get the events in the correct order. Research how believers from different religions use prayer. Are there special times for prayer? Are there special places or buildings to pray in? What kind of preparations have to be made? Think about the type of words which are used. Would you use words like this in your everyday life? Try writing your own prayer, meditation or poem to express one of the feelings above.
