Luke 17:11-19 Class: Middlers Unit: The Book of Luke Title: The Ten Lepers Length of Lesson: One Hour • Materials Needed: • Construction paper • Markers and crayons • Teddy grahams and frosting • Small cups • Old magazines • Scissors • Glue • Blank whit e banner Scripture Summary: Ten lepers approach Jesus and ask for mercy. They are made clean. But only one leper praised God and thanks him. Goal: To teach kids the importance of praising the Lord and encourage them to thank the Lord more often. Objective: Students will be able to praise the Lord more and make it apart of their daily life.
Anticipatory Set: Lay out a huge blank white banner and have the kids cut out or draw pictures of things they are thankful for. • Procedure: • Read Luke 17:11-19 to the children (five minutes) • Discuss what was wrong with these people and why they did what they did (five minutes) • Reread the story having the children act it out, picking roles and having a child read it. (ten minutes) • Finish the Banner writing “Thank You God!” on the top and hang up. (ten minutes) • Make get well cards for people on the prayer chain at church (ten minutes) • Eat teddy grahams and let the kids react the story using them. (ten minutes) • Have the kids play charades with different sicknesses. (ten minutes) • Modifications: • -If there are not ten kids, do as many as possible, have less unthankful lepers for step three • Kids that finish their cards early may help pass out snack • Kids that finish eating first may start playing while the rest finish eating
Closure: Have a prayer thanking God for everything he does for us and praying that we praise him with everything we do.
