CHAPTER 1:Tools of Geometry Section 1-4: Segments, Rays, Parallel Lines, and Planes
Objective • To identify segments and rays. • To recognize parallel lines.
Vocabulary • Segment • Ray • Opposite Rays • Parallel Lines • Skew Lines • Parallel Planes
Segment • A segment is part of a line consisting of two endpoints and all the points between them. • Geometric figures are formed by segments.
Ray • A ray is part of a line consisting of one endpoint and all the points of a line on one side of the endpoint.
Opposite Rays • Opposite rays are two collinear rays with the same endpoint. • Opposite rays always form a line.
Parallel Lines • Parallel Lines are coplanar lines that do not intersect
Skew Lines • Skew lines are lines that are not in the same plane. • Skew lines will never intersect
Parallel Planes • Parallel planes are planes that do not intersect.
