  8. Story of taking the truck…does the end justify the means? • What if.. • It was a big expensive truck? • The keys were not in the truck? Would it have been ok for them to break into the house? What should they have done? • It was in a more populated area?

  9. Was it stealing? • Stealing involves taking something without caring about the person you are stealing from. • Mia and her friends made a wise choice and should not be accused of stealing.

  10. WISE JUDGMENT includes….. • The ability to evaluate the “means” we are using to accomplish a good end.

  13. Wise Judgement ….. • P. 104 • Cannot always point us to an ideal situation ….BUT • It can help us work things out so that both goods can be met to the greatest extent possible.

  14. Obstacles to the good • Fear of losing a job • Fear of being ridiculed/”snitch” • Fear of exposing someone or something you care about • Fear of the unknown • Fear of……. • However we have a RESPONSIBILTY to make the best decision we can.

  15. Spotting Inner Blocks • It will help me get into a good college • It would be weird if I did not drink • It’s a good job • No one walks

  16. Rationalizations • P.105 • Attempts to trick ourselves and others into believing that we are doing something for good reasons when we are really not.

  17. Rationalizations • Everybody cheats. • My pay is so much less than it should be so I am entitled to free stuff. • My dad only hits me when he has been drinking. • My girlfriends understand that my boyfriend and I come first. • My grandmother does not mind when I forget her birthday …she is so old she probably wants to forget she is so old.

  18. Rationalizations • Have everything to do with motives. • Check your motive..
