Literacy Stations • Literacy stations are completed during small group reading time. Students are to work independently at one/two stations per day and complete folder work. Work that is not completed will be sent home to complete. • These stations include: Listening Center, Silent Reading Center, Dictionary Center, Game Center, Make A Word, Spelling Center, Computer, Timed Reading Center, Smart Board, Read To A Friend • Children who complete their work early then rotate to a “FREE” center. They include Games, Blocks, Reading, Art, Sand.

Curriculum • Reading – Scott Foresman Reading Street Series meet individual needs in small group spelling counts only as small percentage of grade – • Writing – Four - Six sentences by the end of second grade 2 developed paragraphs on one topic • Math – Common Core/Investigations/Go Math • Social Sciences – Theme/Integrated in Reading Series • Handwriting – print/cursive
Grading Policies • E-excellent (90-100) • G- good (80-89) • S- satisfactory (70-79) • N- needs improvement (60-69) • U- unsatisfactory (59 – and below)
Testing • DIBELS • Fall – 44 WPM • Winter – 68 WPM • Spring - 90 WPM • STAR – computer monitoring of math and reading fall, winter, spring
Homework • Nightly Folders are sent home • Sign assignment note and return each day. • Please listen to your child read their story and write the title in the log. • Class work not finished in class will be sent home to complete at home. Please return it as soon as possible. • Reading homework is attached to assignment note. It is very important to do ONE page a night. • Please return library books on Thursday of each week.
Discipline Policy • Outstanding (children will receive a prize from the treat basket) • Great Job (children will receive a reward such as invite a friend to lunch, wearing no shoes in side our class room, etc) • Good Day (children will receive a star) • Ready To Learn (children start here each day, no reward or punishment) • Think About It (children will fill out a Think about It form) • Teacher’s Choice (of time out) • Parent Contact (email, phone call, conference, or note) • Daily reports in nightly reading folders Please initial each night
OES Handbook • Students are allowed to bring a healthy snack for snack time (e.g. grapes, goldfish, graham crackers) • We are not allowed to heat children’s lunches in the microwave. Please send in food that does not have to be heated. • Please wear appropriate shoes to school for PE. Children may change their shoes for PE. • Please contact the office if there is a change of transportation. • Please be aware of tardiness and early checkouts. • If your child is absent, you must send a written excuse to the office. + Your child must be fever free for 24hrs.
If you would like to eat lunch with your child, please let your child’s teacher know that morning ($3.50). • If you send cash, place it in an envelope with the child’s name and lunch number. • Please make sure to check in at the office when visiting for a visitors pass. • We love to have volunteers for fieldtrips but we are not allowed have siblings attend.
Other Information • Need help pulling Workbooks for second semester • Volunteers (Reading) Please send a note letting me know when you can read with children one on one • Some children are cold in the room. You made need to send a little jacket to keep in the back of their desk. • Send in box tops, soup labels, pop tops for our class collection. We want to help our school and others through our class donation.
Things Needed • Printer Ink HP 27, HP 28, HP 564,HP 920 • We Collect Pop Tops. We will donate to the Ronald McDonald House near the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. The pop-tops will be cashed in. Families of sick children will be able to stay there for Free. • Treasures for Prize Box • Clorox wipes
