Background • Born October 6, 1955 in Jackson, Michigan • Son of Wilbur and Cleomae – both teachers • One of four children • Evangelical Christian • Attended the University of Minnesota to play football • Played three seasons with Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers • Super Bowl Champion in 1978

  3. Coaching Background • NFL Assistant Coach from 1981-1995 • Pittsburgh – youngest assistant in NFL history at age 25 • Also coached Kansas City and Minnesota • Tampa Bay Head Coach • 1996-2001 • Indianapolis Head Coach • 2002-2008 • Super Bowl Champion in 2006 • Made playoffs every season • Inducted in to Ring of Honor

Other Achievements • Graced the cover of EA Sports’ NFL Head Coach 09 • Received Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award from United States Sports Academy • Top 15 in Davie-Brown Index in 2007 • Author of Quiet Strength, Uncommon, The Mentor Leader, You Can Be a Friend • Analyst on NBC’s Sunday Night Football • Declined NFL Player’s Association offer to become liaison between NFL

Community Involvement (Pt. 1) • Considered leaving football for prison ministry • Supports ‘Prison Crusade Ministry’ • Public speaker for ‘Athletes in Action’ and ‘Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ • Created a youth mentoring program in Tampa Bay called ‘Mentors for Life’ • Spokesman for a fatherhood program called ‘All Pro Dad’ • Spoke at ‘Assemblies of God’ in August of 2009 • Created ‘Basket of Hope’ program at Riley Hospital for Children

  7. Community Involvement (Pt. 2) • Appointed by George W. Bush as a member of the President’s Council on Service and Civil Participation in August of 2007 • Invited to join Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships by Barack Obama in March of 2009. Declined due to scheduling but agreed to become informal adviser on fatherhood issues • Supports Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club and Family First • Supports Black Coaches Association National Convention and Indiana Black Expo

The quote that I’ll never forget is “it’s our time.” That’s what he kept saying going into the playoffs when we won the Super Bowl.” -TyjuanHagler, former Indianapolis Colts linebacker • Unshakeable, confident, inspiring and faithful were some of the other words Hagler used to describe Dungy. • “We’re not going to change anything. We’re just going to do what we’re doing better.”
