Similarities- Whales/Caribou Whales and caribou share two important similarities. Both animals must travel from the Artic to warmer locations for the winter. Whales can’t survive in the solid ice of the Artic seas during the winter. Caribou cannot find enough food to eat under the winter blanket of ice. Both animals also travel in groups. The whales look for traveling companions in the fall. Small groups of caribou join other small groups to form a large herd. As you can see, whale and caribou migrations are quite similar.
