  2. Turtles Turtles are ancient reptiles that have been around for over 20 million years. The alligator snapping turtle is known for snapping a broomstick in half. Turtles have a strong shell made of thick layers of plates .

  3. Green Sea Turtles Green sea turtles are one of the few species of endangered sea turtles . They can weigh up to four hundred pounds including the shell . Green sea turtles are known to swim thirty five miles per hour .

  4. Softshell Turtle Soft shell turtles are popular pets because they have a unique personality and they are very cute . Soft shells live twenty five years in captivity,andfifty in the wild . The males have green eyes and the females have orange eyes .

  5. Tortoises Tortoises live longer than most turtles and some live over one hundred years . Tortoises eat plants and they eat lots of different plants . Tortoises are very slow and their heavy shell weighs them down .

  6. Leatherback Sea Turtle Leatherback sea turtles have a very leathery shell , and it is soft . Adult leatherbacks weigh up to two thousand pounds . They have a seven foot long shell . Leatherbacks have enormous eleven feet long flippers . These sea turtles are the fastest and the largest turtles in the world . Leatherbacks swim twenty two miles per hour .
