Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed Luk 20:20 So they watched [Him], and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor.
Who were the Pharisees? • They were meticulous about observing the law, both in its written and oral forms; (2) They affirmed the immortality of the soul and the resurrection of the body; and (3) They had a greater influence on the common people than did the other sects.
Who were the Pharisees? "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!" (Matthew 23:23-24)
Your Plot • Can you thwart the will of God? • Is your life plan in opposition to God’s will? • Can you ‘play’ God?
Mat 22:16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.
HERODIANS: Priestly party under the reign of King Herod and his successors; called by the Rabbis "Boethusians," as adherents of the family of Boethus, whose daughter Mariamne was one of the wives of King Herod, and whose sons were successively made high priests by him. They followed the Sadducees in their opposition to the Pharisees, and were therefore often identified with the former. Their plot against the life of Jesus was supported by the Pharisees wherefore Jesus warned his disciples, saying "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod.
Psa 5:9 For [there is] no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part [is] destruction; Their throat [is] an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue. Psa 55:21 [The words] of his mouth were smoother than butter, But war [was] in his heart; His words were softer than oil, Yet they [were] drawn swords.
Your Heart • How do you approach GOD? • Are you trying to hid an ulterior motive? • Do you question GOD’s motives or methods?
Mat 22:17 "Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?“ Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes [are due], customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. Act 25:8 while he answered for himself, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in anything at all."
Mat 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test Me, [you] hypocrites? Rev 2:23 "I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works. Act 5:9 Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband [are] at the door, and they will carry you out."
God’s Ways vs Your Ways • Can you know the mind of God? • Can you know the will of God? • Do you think that God knows your mind? • Can you hid your true motives from God?
Mat 22:19 "Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius. Mat 22:20 And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription [is] this?“ Mat 22:21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
Pro 24:21 My son, fear the LORD and the king; Do not associate with those given to change; Mal 1:8 And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, [Is it] not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, [Is it] not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?" Says the LORD of hosts.
Paying Taxes • Are you paying the proper tax? • Are you giving GOD your best offering of time and talents? • Do you pay your debts with joy?
Mat 22:22 When they had heard [these words], they marveled, and left Him and went their way. Mal 3:8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You? In tithes and offerings.
Mat 22:23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, • How important is Christ’s resurrection? • How important is our resurrection?
Who were the Sadducees? • The Sadducees maintained that the only way for truly pious behavior was to live according to the commandments in the written Law; the Pharisees, on the other hand, taught that the written Law had been given to the Jews and that they were free to interpret the Law.
1Pe 2:13-16 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and [for the] praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men--as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.
1Cr 15:12-14 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching [is] empty and your faith [is] also empty.
Mat 22:24 saying: "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Gen 38:8 And Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother.“ Deu 25:5 "If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be [married] to a stranger outside [the family]; her husband's brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.

For they all had her."
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. Luk 20:34-36 Jesus answered and said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
Mat 22:30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. Mat 22:31 "But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, Mat 22:32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
Jhn 5:28-29 "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Mat 22:33 And when the multitudes heard [this], they were astonished at His teaching. 1Cr 7:29 -31 But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing [it]. For the form of this world is passing away. Jhn 7:46 The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"
