Who Are We? • What makes us UNIQUE • In Post-Secondary Education: • Colorado Career and Technical Education is a major component of the state's largest system of higher education serving more than 117,000 students(30,000 CTE Students) annually in: • 13 Colorado Community Colleges and • 600 postsecondary programs

Of the students contacted - 94% of secondary students who completed CTE programs in 2003-04 were employed in jobs related to their training or continuing their education More than 22,000 students participate in CTE student organizations More than 5000 community and business leaders serve on advisory committees and councils supporting CTE

Industry • Business Ed Round Table…more career/vocational skills (29%) with stronger academics (14%) source: Colorado Education Alignment Council • Machine operator in chemical plant uses same math skills as student in college algebra source: Mike Cohen, director of Washington-based Achieve Inc. • Too many students leave high school unprepared for either college or workforce – 30% need remedial courses during freshman year source: Higher Ed Trendlines, Colorado Commission on Higher Education
