  1. What is TED? • TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. • “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. • Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. • TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman.

What is TEDx? • In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx - local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. • At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. • These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. • Click here to watch TED Curator Chris Anderson’s explanatory video.

What is TEDxRedmond? • TEDxRedmond is an independently organized TED event in Redmond, Washington State. • After speaking at the annual TED conference in Long Beach, California, twelve-year-old teacher, speaker, and author Adora Svitak wanted to bring her experience home to Redmond, Washington. "I had such a great experience during my first time at TED, but I realized that not everyone had such an opportunity," she explained. "Through TEDxRedmond, I'm hoping to share the magic of TED in an independently organized event. Adora will be hosting TEDxRedmond.
