PBMC from six blood donors were stimulated with 3 × 107 bacteria/ml of S. mitis CCUG 31661 and graded concentrations of sonicates of the same bacteria were added. Cytokines were measured in the supernatant after 24 h (TNF, IL-12, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10) or 5 d (IFN-γ). Medians and quartiles are shown by boxes and the bars represent the 10th and 90th percentiles, respectively.
