COMPARISON OF PERCENT OF CHILDREN ELIGIBLE FOR ADOPTION BY CURRENT, PROPOSED AND ALTERNATE CRITERIA SFY 2007 – SFY 2009 Chart is based on children who were legally free for adoption, placed in adoptive homes or available for placement in an adoptive home during the year. A larger percentage of children would have been eligible for adoption assistance based on the Alternate criteria in all three fiscal years.

A larger percentage of children would have been eligible for adoption assistance based on the Alternate criteria in all three fiscal years.

Proposed Criteria: Children who have been legally free for adoption for 12 months or more without an adoptive placement, part of a sibling group of two or more in same home, or has a special need. Alternate Criteria: Children who have been in foster care for 24 months or more, part of a sibling group of two or more in same home, or has a special need. • Table Explanation • In SFY 2009, there were 2,043 children who were legally free for adoption, placed in adoptive homes or available for placement in an adoptive home, during the year. • 1,637 or 80.1% met the current criteria • 1,585 or 77.6% would have met the proposed criteria • 1,852 or 90.7% would have met the alternate criteria A larger number of children would have been eligible for adoption assistance under the alternate criteria in all three state fiscal years.
