Workers’ Compensation • Purpose: • To provide legally mandated benefits to workers who are injured at work, or who develop a job-related illness as a result of their employment • The Florida Division of Risk Management determines eligibility for coverage based on the circumstances reported
Eligibility for Benefits: • Coverage is available for full-time, part-time, and temporary employees including Graduate Assistants, Student Assistants and College Work Study • Registered volunteer workers are also covered • Coverage is not available for independent contractors or vendors who provide services to state agencies • Benefits may include payment for medical bills, mileage, lost wages and vocational rehabilitation Workers’ Compensation

Return to Work Documentation: • Documentation is required from an approved Managed Care Network Physician or medical facility • Documents are submitted to Division of Human Resources, Workers’ Compensation Coordinator – PC 224 • Supervisors are strongly encouraged to identify appropriate modified duties for employees who have been released to work with restrictions Workers’ Compensation

FIU is planning to adopt a University-Wide Pooled Fringe Benefit rate effective the first full payroll after July 1, 2010 • The Pooled Fringe Benefit Rate is an alternative method of budgeting and accounting for employer-paid fringe benefit costs • There is no change to employee benefit plans or enrollments Fringe Benefit Pool

Payroll transfers that involve grants need to be routed through OSRA including transfers to and from C&G funding source • Payroll transfers more than 60 days for all academic units need to go to Academic Affairs for approval • Payroll transfers more than 60 days for non-academic units need VP approval • Payroll transfers must be submitted to Payroll by June 21, 2010 for this fiscal year, however, the receiving department will have an elevated accrual that will not be reversed in 2009-10 Payroll Transfers
