What is a Thriller • Thriller is a film genre , that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements. Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer's moods giving them a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and/or terror. Thriller films tend to be adrenaline-rushing, gritty, rousing and fast-paced.
Thriller Characteristics • The protagonist is not a stand out, and is usually a vulnerable character • The protagonist usually is the one that kills the villain, escaping with their life. • The identity of the villain is known throughout the film. • There is usually a stalker, or stalker-like person. • Suspense is built throughout the film until its climax or anti-climax. • It engages the audience. • The Non-diegetic sound is used to build suspense. • The location is either an exotic place or a bland place but both with an ordinary community.
Conventions that my opening sequence challenged • Camera Movement and angles • Track and Tilt at the end to reveal the stalkers true identity. • Low camera angle when he walks into the room to build suspense. • High camera angle to show what the stalker looks like. • Zoom into the boyfriends face to capture his emotions at that particular time.
Conventions that my opening sequence challenged • Misé-en-scene • In this scene you can tell that this room belongs to a girl. This is due to the fact that you can see a pink coloured pillow, butterflies hanging from the ceiling, and posters on the wall, and although a girl is not in the shot you can tell that it belongs to a girl, and that she is a very normal girl.
