Touch Rugby Are you ready to play???
Positions • W = Wings (Usually the fastest players on the outside) • L = Links (Good overall skill required) • M = Middle (Great Decision makers and passers) • During a play, Dummy Half is a player that picks up the ball.
Start • Tap and go at the Mid-Field. • Defense must be 10 meters back. • A person who picks up the ball can run until the defenders tag them. • Tap and go is conducted after someone scores a try. (Team that gave up a try gets the tap and go).
Rules • Offense has up to 6 touches. • After a tag, the entire defense must be 5 meters back. • If a player who is offside tags, the play just continues. Referee may rule it a penalty. • Players can only pass the ball lateral or backwards. • After getting tagged, player must step over the ball. • Scoring is called a try. Players must place the ball down on the try zone.
Turnover • Knock on (dropped pass or bad pass that goes on the ground) • Dummy Half gets tagged. • Stepping out of bounds. • Team used it’s 6 plays. • Defense missed a interception. **After a turnover, opponent starts with a step over.
Penalties • Change of possession for Offensive Penalty. New 6 possession for Defensive Penalty. Tap and Go is conducted after the following penalties. • Forward Pass. • Phantom Touch. • Touch Pass. • Blocking • Misconducts.
Protecting the Dummy • Teams have the option to start a play on the five meter line if they are inside. Since the defense could easily touch the Dummy inside the 5 meter line, it is wise to move the ball back to 5 meter line to have some room.
Few Tips • Learn to build a “wall” as a team on the defense. • Don’t be afraid to get tagged. Getting tagged is way better than a turnover. • Always be ready to catch pass if you are on offense. • Communicate well with your teammates. • Practice your basic pass and catch skills. • Run North and South! Not East/West.
