SECTION A: READING POETRY FROM DIFFERENT CULTURES
1 Compare how language and layout are used for effect in. ‘Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes’ (page 8) with the ways language and layout are used for effect in one other poem of your choice from the Poems from Different Cultures. C GRADE • POINT EVIDENCE & EXPLANATION PEE THE POET USES REPETITION THROUGHOUT 'LIMBO' TO BUILD TENSION AND AID RHYTHM. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IS THE REPEATED LINE, "AND THE DARK DECK IS SLAVERY”. THE REPETITION IS USED FOR EFFECT HERE TO EMPHASISE THE TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE THE SLAVES ARE GOING THROUGH ON THE CRAMPED AND DANGEROUS SLAVE SHIP.
